measured
the
amount
of
ice
that
melts
during
the
summer
periods
in
the
Arctic
waters.
The
measurements
have
been
taken
over
a
period
of
time
around
Greenland.
The
measurements
show
that
Greenland
is
melting
much
faster
than
earlier
estimated.
And
why
is
this
a
problem?
Well
thousands
of
years
ago
the
very
northern
part
of
Alaska
melted
and
part
of
it
broke
loose
from
the
continent,
which
resulted
in
an
even
faster
melting
process.
When
the
big
chunk
of
ice
was
gone
the
whole
natural
world
ocean
current
got
off
balance
-
which
actually
resulted
in
an
ice-age.
